Ambience - 6x6 Oil Painting

6"x6" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

After the last few overcast days, I'm looking forward to the chance to enjoy a good sunset again.

Last Breath - 4x8 Oil Painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I don't have much time to post, but I wanted to share this recent painting of a cloudy sunset. I love the tall format of 4"x8" panels and how it really seemed to suite the drama of the massive cloud overhanging everything.

Last Light - 5x7 Oil Painting

sunset over field small oil painting by Kerri Settle
5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I thought my power supply had died in my computer but with a few tweaks everything seems to be working again, so I hope it sticks. I've also (thankfully!) finished painting my studio/computer room and boy am I glad to have that project out of the way.

This is another in my smaller series of studies of sunsets. I just love painting that thin band of low light before everything fades.

Computer Issues

My computer is giving me grief and isn't working, so until I get that fixed I won't be able to post any new paintings. Hopefully I'll get it worked out soon.

At Sea - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I'm typing this at an awkward angle since my computer/studio room is complete disarray at the moment. I'm getting ready to paint the walls. Even though I realized I have a lot of stuff crammed into this room, I didn't realize just how bad it was until I was forced to move it all. To celebrate the joy of housework and painting, I'll be thinking of where I'd rather be with this scene from the beach.

Fort Macon Beach - 4x8 Oil Painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I was looking through my references again and this scene from Fort Macon beach caught my eye. I've approached it in larger formats but wanted a chance to explore it in a smaller size and to play with my technique on the grasses up front. I don't mind revisiting references when I feel I still have something to learn from them.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Blue Ridge Morning - 5x7 Oil Painting

5x7 oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

My favorite part of working on this painting was definitely painting that big old mountain in the background, full of blues and pinks.

I've been thinking of trying my hand at soft pastels lately. I worked with them a little bit years ago but never in depth, and I've always admired the look that other artists achieve with them. If anyone has any brands or books or tips they'd like to suggest, I'd be happy to hear them. I'd love to have a second medium to play around with on nights that oil painting just isn't working out for me.

Cupcakes in a Row - 18x24 Oil Painting

18"x24" oil painting on stretched canvas
SOLD

Since I have a sweet tooth that's always "on", I got pretty excited when I saw the current challenge on DSFDF of a bunch of cupcakes in a row. It seemed like the perfect exercise to work on values, which is an area I've been trying to improve on. I thought this photo would look really nice as a HUGE painting, but since I'm working under time limits, 18"x24" was as far as I wanted to go.

I hope everyone had a great labor day weekend!

Last Hurrah - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

Here's a small one I recently listed, which got me playing with a warm palette again.

I was feeling better today so I spent a lot of the day working on the current Different Strokes from Different Folks challenge, and trying to tear down a horrible old sunflower wall border that's bugged me forever. It's a lot of work but I think it'll be wonderful to be free of it in the end.

Bluebonnets and Paintbrush - 4x8 Oil Painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

Sorry to be a double-poster, but here's another recent one of bluebonnets and indian paintbrush.

On a side note, the weather has been ridiculously beautiful the last few days and I'm already seeing leaves on the ground. I always get extremely happy when I see the signs of autumn approaching. Summers in eastern NC are just way too muggy but the fall is perfect to me.

I've been feeling a little under the weather today and didn't get much done. Here's one listed a few days ago that I forgot to post.
