"When all else is lost, the future still remains." - Christian Nestell Bovee

A question for my artist friends: I've been using Silver Grand Prix brand Chungking bristle brushes as my work horse lately, but they seem to wear down on me within a week or two of use. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a longer lived but similar brand brush. I hate having to buy new ones every few weeks, but it might just be my abusive painting ways. Let me know if you know of a good alternative!

"To see the Summer Sky
Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie -
True Poems flee."
~Emily Dickinson

I'm dreaming of these cloudy blue skies since the previous week has been overcast and it's just supposed to be more of the same this week. So if I can't have the real thing, at least I can paint it!

"I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do. They go wandering forth in all directions with every wind, going and coming like ourselves, traveling with us around the sun two million miles a day, and through space heaven knows how fast and far!" ~John Muir

Just a note that this painting has been relisted. I took it down about a month ago to get some ideas off of it. It's now available for purchase in my eBay store.

Good News!

Daily Painters is having a contest to determine their next member, and they've narrowed it down to the top 20. I've made the cut but could use your vote! Just go here to cast yours. You can rate more than one artist, so go hog wild!

There are a lot of talented artists in the running and I'm excited to be in the mix. I see some familiar names from my artist blog buddies, too. (Gwen Bell, Dana Cooper, Kelley MacDonald and Carolyn Finnell are all artists I've been following for a while now.) I'm just glad I was able to make it this far. Congratulations to all the remaining artists!

Everyone else might be sick of these ocean paintings by now, but I'm still a little obsessed with them. It's not that I haven't tried to find other subjects to paint, because I have. But I keep coming back to these.

Moo Cards Are Here!

In lieu of getting traditional business cards this time around, I decided to give Moo Cards a try. They're smaller than the average business card - about 1"x2.75" - but the great thing is that you can print a different image on each one if so inclined, with your personal info going on the back. For this first run I tried 19 different images; some came out a little dark but I suspect that was more my fault, so I'll know to lighten my images a little more next time.

I also printed five free shipping cards that will go out in five random orders in the future, as a way of saying thank you to my customers.

I'll probably hoard one batch of images for myself to make magnets out of. I'm excited about these and hope my customers will enjoy collecting them.

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
~John Burroughs
