Marsh Canal Sailboat - 6x6 Oil Painting

I meant to get caught up on all the blogs I missed while on vacation but I'm not sure where the time went today. This is one I was working on before I left and got a chance to finish up today. I'm starting to get into a boat phase and found myself working on a larger boat-themed painting today which I'll hopefully be able to share soon.

While on vacation I stopped by Cheap Joe's art outlet and noticed they had some clean gallery-style frames for some of the odd sizes of panels and canvases that I enjoy working with. The frames are available on their website (the link is to the black frames, but they also carry walnut and natural). They're affordable, and you can find uncommon sizes like 4x4, 4x8, 6x6, 6x12, and 12x24. Check it out if you're an artist looking for framing solutions or are a collector wanting to frame up your collection.

You did such a great job on this painting. This one reminds me of something my grandpa would paint. He painted with water colors and he painted quite a few boats. =)

Thanks! I've noticed that those of us with creative inclinations have generations of it within our families. My grandparents were involved in woodworking and my father works a lot with building boat, plane and car models and with photography. I'd love to have known a few painters within my family!

Hi R! My blue and green mixes involved a lot of W&N Artists Winsor Green with a bit of W&N French Ultramarine and various degrees of Titanium White. Right now those are responsible for most of my blue and blue green combos, but I'll hopefully be receiving my tube of M Harding Phthalo Blue Lake tomorrow and I'll get to see how I like it. I'm excited to try some new brands.
