Where Eternity Lies - 24x36 Oil Painting

A few months ago I painted a little painting called "Storm Over Hammocks Beach" that inspired this larger piece. There's something about these expansive views of deserted beaches that haunts me. It's where sky meets sea - and where we remember just how small we are.

Breaking Through - 12x12 Oil Painting

There's nothing I love better than painting a moody beach scene. This one really captured me - the lonely cloud wandering over, the clearing sky, the saturated light breaking through. It also makes me glad I made the switch to deeper canvases, because it makes a great impression hanging on the wall.

This is the first of many future large painting offerings. I've always wanted to offer bigger paintings online and finally decided to just jump in and do it. This one was the icebreaker for me, and I'm almost done with my next piece in this size.

This captures one of those Outer Banks days of blue waters and crashing waves. Crisp blues and whites with touches of green - great for a beach setting or anyone that wants to feel closer to the ocean. The waves are textured. This is from a reference I took at Hammock's Beach, North Carolina. Hope to go back this summer for more!

Transience - 6x8 Oil Painting

6"x8" oil painting on archival canvas panel
SOLD

I'm heavily drawn to shades of gray in paintings, and capturing that soft washed out feel of a misty day. This is all about the ephemeral balance between sand and sky on one of those days.

I've started working in earnest on a large 24"x36" very detailed ocean wave painting. I've been itching to paint large for so long. I'm going to enjoy the process but put a lot of work into it each day so I can get it out there within a reasonable time.

Please also note that I've changed the look of my blog! A critique on Artist.Blog.Critique mentioned my outdated blog look, and I couldn't disagree. Check out that black bar up top - you can stick to Classic View to view full posts, which should be default. And it's fun to try out the Flipcard View to see just paintings that I've posted to get an overall feel of my work. Let me know how you like the new look, or if you have any problems!

Flanners Beach - 18x24 Oil Painting

18"x24" oil painting on stretched canvas

I thoroughly enjoyed painting this waterside scene from the Croatan National Forest. Many of us artists have subjects we subconsciously or not avoid; I've always been a little nervous to paint rocks but it was actually an enjoyable experience.

My last rework for now, this time a bigger painting. Before the rework it was very dull and uninspired; it was fun to come back and add color and depth to it.

This view was the view from our cabin near Mendocino, California on our honeymoon a few years ago. It's a really beautiful spot and it was nice to revisit it through painting.

Point Cabrillo Light Station - 6x6 Oil Painting

6"x6" oil painting on archival canvas panel
Available in my eBay store

I'm feeling sick as a dog this weekend so I'll probably be falling behind on painting this week. On the plus side, I have a few paintings already completed to post - this one is of the Point Cabrillo Light Station in Mendocino, CA, referenced from a trip I took there several years ago. It was foggy every day we were there.

Apologies for the gap in posting. It's been raining nonstop for the past week - which meant I couldn't take pictures of paintings to post.

Back to my favorite yellow boat - it's been the subject of several smaller paintings but I was really itching to try it in a larger format. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
