Where Eternity Lies - 24x36 Oil Painting

Closeup:

A few months ago I painted a little painting called "Storm Over Hammocks Beach" that inspired this larger piece. There's something about these expansive views of deserted beaches that haunts me. It's where sky meets sea - and where we remember just how small we are.

Silver - 24x24 Oil Painting

silver sky marsh oil painting by Kerri Settle
24"x24" oil painting on stretched canvas
SOLD

"Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold." - Maurice Setter

This is another painting that's been on the backburner for a while. I've always been drawn to silver motifs in paintings and really loved painting that wide open sky.

"To see the Summer Sky
Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie -
True Poems flee."
~Emily Dickinson

I'm dreaming of these cloudy blue skies since the previous week has been overcast and it's just supposed to be more of the same this week. So if I can't have the real thing, at least I can paint it!

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
~John Burroughs

Unexpected Visitor - 8x10 Oil Painting

8"x10" oil painting on archival canvas panel
SOLD

“Everything starts as somebody's daydream.” - Larry Niven

I love seeing the moon hanging against a daytime sky, especially when there are puffy clouds involved. The colors aren't QUITE right in this picture; there is a little more pinkish-purple in the clouds that doesn't really show here. I'll take more pictures tomorrow and see if I can get it more spot on. - Update: 2/10 - Picture has been replaced with a more accurate one.

“Dreams are real as long as they last. Can we say more of life?”
- Havelock Ellis

I failed to post this painting while my monitor was dead, so here it is now. It's got just a few days left at auction. I think I'm about to go through a cloud phase again in my paintings; I get a little fascinated with all those soft transitions.

At The Close of Day

6x12 on stretched canvas
SOLD

Skyscapes always present a bit of a challenge for me unless I'm in the perfect frame of mind for them. I always want to make set the values of the different planes of the cloud further apart than they really are, sometimes ending up in a discordant mess. After struggling awhile on this one I had to go back and soften the sky with a large brush, and I think it helped a lot. I enjoy working with purples but having a hard time getting a really vibrant purple.
