Blue Ridge Morning - 5x7 Oil Painting

My favorite part of working on this painting was definitely painting that big old mountain in the background, full of blues and pinks.

I've been thinking of trying my hand at soft pastels lately. I worked with them a little bit years ago but never in depth, and I've always admired the look that other artists achieve with them. If anyone has any brands or books or tips they'd like to suggest, I'd be happy to hear them. I'd love to have a second medium to play around with on nights that oil painting just isn't working out for me.

Thanks everyone for stopping by! And Lauren, thank you; I was hoping I might have an easier time with the softer look in pastels. (But boy is it expensive for a decent set, so it might have to wait until my birthday!)

Hi Kerri, Nice handling of the blue mountain in the background. I think you would really enjoy working with pastels, and your soft style with painting would transfer well.
