For the Weary - 6x8 Oil Painting

Click to purchase this painting on eBay

Hi everyone! This is a little nugget of the Blue Ridge. Love those soft evening colors!

I've finally finished my 24x36 ocean painting that I've been working so diligently on - it's going to dry for a while and will be up in a week or two. Hope everyone's having a great month!

Blue Ridge View - 6x8 Oil Painting

6"x8" oil painting on archival canvas panel
SOLD

I've generally been trying to focus on painting larger pieces lately, but this one had been on the backburner for a while, and a recent trip to the mountains inspired me to finish it. The mountains are a great reprieve from the heat on the coast lately.

Blue Ridge Dawn - 6x8 Oil Painting

"I keep the subject of my inquiry constantly before me, and wait till the first dawning opens gradually, by little and little, into a full and clear light." - Isaac Newton

I'm not sure why I don't do many paintings in this size and up to 11x14 or so; I was previously always interested in the smaller paintings and large paintings, with little in-between. I think on my next canvas order I'll get canvases in the middle range and play around a bit.

Blue Ridge Morning - 5x7 Oil Painting

5x7 oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

My favorite part of working on this painting was definitely painting that big old mountain in the background, full of blues and pinks.

I've been thinking of trying my hand at soft pastels lately. I worked with them a little bit years ago but never in depth, and I've always admired the look that other artists achieve with them. If anyone has any brands or books or tips they'd like to suggest, I'd be happy to hear them. I'd love to have a second medium to play around with on nights that oil painting just isn't working out for me.

Cone Manor Trail - 18x24 Oil Painting

18"x24" on stretched canvas
SOLD

I've been dreaming of autumn for the past week. This is from a trail near Moses Cone Manor in Blowing Rock, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I thought it would be a good opportunity to use the warmer palette that I've been experimenting with.

Grazing Horse - 6x6 Oil Painting

Horse Grazing in a Blue Ridge Mountain Valley Small Original Oil Painting

After working on some larger paintings today, I feel completely beat for the day. I don't know how many calories painting burns off but it certainly burns off my brain cells after a long painting session.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Red Barn on the Hill - 4x8 Oil Painting

I've got no time to post, but this red barn with the teal roof is one of the many that begged to be painted from my trip to the mountains a few weeks ago.

Tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains - 4x4 Oil Painting

I'm about to step out the door but I wanted to post this painting I listed last night for auction. It's from one of the references I took while on my trip in the mountains last week.

My family's been planning a little reunion in the mountains a few months down the line so I've been thinking about the Blue Ridge area lately. I miss living there!

Blue Ridge Morning

6x6
SOLD

With my convoluted sleep schedule I'm more likely to be closing my eyes as morning approaches instead of opening them, but I still love the atmosphere that surrounds that magical time of day, with dew coating everything and a soft light gathering around the world.

I managed to get around to designing and ordering my new business cards last night. If anyone out there wants a suggestion on where to order their own, check out Overnight Prints, and don't forget to look for coupon codes on Google before you order.

You still have until midnight to enter this month's free painting giveaway!

Merging Blogs and a new painting!

I've decided to merge my Etsy and eBay blogs into one, and this is the one I'll be posting to from now on. Previously I was posting my smaller still life paintings that I sell on Etsy on this blog and mostly posting my landscapes listed on eBay on another blog, but I think that I've neglected both blogs by keeping them separate. I hope this will be a better solution!

I've been revisiting some winter photos I took in Valle Crucis when I was in the Blue Ridge area last March. This scene is from Valle Crucis Park, and if you're ever in the area give it a visit because it's a beautiful park. It was a cold but gorgeous day. It's a 20"x20".
