Orange Boat at the Dock - 4x8 Oil Painting

This was painted with a very limited palette of three colors: Cadmium Orange, French Ultramarine, and Titanium White. There were many moments where I was itching to pick up some red to make the colors in the boat a bit richer but I resisted. It was a fun challenge - I'd be interested to try it again with different colors. The photo reference I used is by Logan Ingalls, from Flickr's Creative Commons.

Vern - Flickr has a section called Creative Commons. Look for photos tagged with the Attribution License, where photos are free for adaption and for use commercially as long as you give credit to the photographer. You can find more sources of photos through this article on About.Com.
