On the Way to the Ferry I - 4x8 oil painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

From now until the end of Black Friday, I have a sale going on in my eBay store for all of my non-auction listings. Check it out if you're so inclined!

I painted this piece along with a 6x6 companion that will be listed tomorrow. It was a boat I spied on my way to take the ferry to Ocracoke a while back. My goal was to keep the values very close together except for the boat itself. The painting I'll be listing tomorrow is the same boat, different angle.

Cape Lookout Boat - 6x6 Oil Painting

6"x6" oil painting on canvas panel

This is another from Cape Lookout. I liked the way the posts framed the boat behind the grassy dunes. I think there's an appeal to painting boats, regardless of whether you're a landlover or not (and I am). They instantly introduce a narrative or possibility of a story, and appeal to that sense of solitude and escape that lingers in all of us.

Topsail Sunset - 18x24 Oil Painting

18"x24" oil painting on stretched canvas
SOLD

So here's a painting I've been waiting on for weeks to finally dry to the touch so I could list it. I'm very glad I first approached these colors from a sunset at Topsail Beach in a smaller format a few weeks ago, because it really made it a lot easier to understand how to work the color on this bigger piece.

Boat at Cape Lookout - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

Cape Lookout on NC's Outer Banks is worth visiting for the color of the water alone. This is on the sound side, on one of those perfect blue-sky days. I really look forward to visiting again next summer.

The Blues - 8x10 Oil Painting

8"x10" oil painting on stretched linen canvas
SOLD

I'm on a boat kick, so I'll be posting many more boat paintings soon. I love rich blues and haven't gotten a chance to work with many lately, so when I saw this blue boat against very blue water I knew I wanted to paint it.

Hide and Seek - 8x10 oil painting

8"x10" oil painting on linen canvas
SOLD

I painted this on one of the linen canvases I recently ordered to give a test run. It's the roughest weave I could find, Claessens #29. I had a great time working with it; it can take a lot of paint without a problem, and reminded me of working with soft pastels.

I'm still waiting on so many things to dry to the touch, and since I'm not sure exactly how long each painting is going to take, I'm listing many (like this one) as longer auctions, with the additional note in the auction that they still might require additional drying time before shipment.

Apologies

I apologize to anyone that was watching my 4"x8" indian blanket painting set to end tonight. I just checked it out and the sky is still very wet, so I'd rather end it and reschedule it when it's dry than tell the purchaser after they've won it that it'll unexpectedly be another week before it ships. If you'd like to know when it's been relisted, just email me and I'll send you a reminder.

Field of Poppies - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I'm kicking myself for not adding some galkyd to speed up the drying process on several of my latest paintings, and now they're taking forever to dry so I haven't listed any of them yet. In the meantime, here's a poppy field.
