Kerri..I have to say this painting made me tear up. When I was a little girl in the 60's our family was planning a trip to Ocracoke. I had dreams of long sweeping beaches and wild ponies..just having read Marguarite Henry books..I was so excited I could barely stand it. I had never seen an ocean. I was pony mad..Then civil unrest broke out all over. There were riots and lynchings and it was scary and Dad decided it was not the time to head to the south.(we were in Ohio). So the trip was canceled and I never made it to Ocracoke. When I was 19 I left Ohio and went west to Utah and have spent time on beaches along the Pacific..but never actually have been on the east coast..flew over on a trip to Europe but that doesn't count. Now my dear departed Dad did get to the east coast with my Mom a few times after he retired but the Ocracoke trip never happened. So if you will forgive my story..this painting just brought back the memories of our sweet plans. Someday I will get there...it is a promise I will keep. Love the painting..thanks so much for posting it.
