Along the Beach - 4x8 Oil Painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I've been working on a 10"x10" painting and have found myself getting really frustrated with the texture of the canvas being too smooth, so I've spent the night looking online for prestretched canvas with a rougher texture. I've placed a small order with frenchcanvas.com for their linen canvases to give that a try, but if anyone can recommend a "toothy" canvas, cotton or linen, that's reasonably priced, please let me know. I'd really love to hear what works for other landscape artists.

Sunset Over Ocracoke Island Dunes - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I was in the mood to paint something that involved the beach but didn't feature any water in it, and flipping through my photos from Ocracoke I found one of a sunset over the dunes and I knew I had to paint it. I just love a dark cloud trying in vain to hide the brilliant colors behind it.

Outer Banks Morning - 4x8 Oil Painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

Whew, I feel like I'm constantly trying to get ahead of myself in painting but I'm still always so behind on what I want to do. I'm really hoping I'll get a chance to work on some larger paintings soon, since it's been a while on that front, but I also want to keep listing these smaller paintings more regularly.

Evening at Topsail - 6x6 Oil Painting

6"x6" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

A few clouds were still lingering over the beach as the sun set on Topsail. I like this moment in the day where the beach has mostly emptied and there are only a few more moments of light left before the stars come out.

I was lucky enough to have recently won a beautiful art print from artist Julie Beck, of skeleton keys, and I was excited when it arrived in the mail today. Julie's works have a great sense of warmth to them, so check her blog out if you haven't before!

Topsail Evening - 4x8 Oil Painting

4"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

It's not easy to type around a cat whose blocking access to the keyboard, but I'm not in a hurry to dismiss him because it's cold and rainy outside and the extra heat is nice. I love lap cats.

This little painting of Topsail Beach at sunset took a long time to get from beginning to end; something about it really caused a struggle for me. The original iteration had a lot of details that seemed to go nowhere, so I simplified it some and softened some edges to calm it down, since I want the scene to be relaxing.

Well, back to my lap cat.

House on Topsail Beach - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I've been cleaning house all day and I'm beat. Makes me wish I was back on vacation. This house was the one next to ours during our stay at Topsail beach and was one of the more brightly colored ones in the area. It's going to be in several paintings to come, I'm sure.

Topsail Beach Sunset - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

My husband's family recently rented a house in Surf City on Topsail Island, and it had great direct beach access, so I was able to experience a few sunsets on the beach while I was there. The first night we stayed there was incredibly rainy and overcast but it cleared up nicely and the weather was perfect during our stay.

Atlantic Beach Illumination - 6x6 Oil Painting

6"x6" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

There's something about the way the light hits distant houses as it fades. My favorite time to visit the beach isn't during the height of summer, but during the end of the season when the crowds have cleared out and the weather is perfect for a walk.

Blazing Sunset - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

I had a nice vacation to the beach last week, and I came back feeling refreshed on the painting front and have been busy on some new pieces.

This one was started before I left. I'm not sure how I did without cadmium orange on my palette for so long, considering how much of a workhorse it's been for me lately.
